Shopping for fresh food

I'm home, safe and sound.  Ottawa was relaxing, my flight to Iqaluit was excellent (First class ticket, thanks to an amazing sale!  I had more water, juice, coffee and tea than I probably should have, plus a free breakfast in the lounge at the airport!), and I'm already done unpacking and made supper from scratch BEFORE going grocery shopping.

One question I heard over and over on my holidays was "how much do groceries cost up there?"  As you know, the price of groceries is never totally stable... plus I rarely look closely at prices here.  It's easier not to stress over cost of food if you don't really think about it.  For the sake of all those with questions, I'll tell you how much my groceries today cost: $93.27  That's after being on holidays for 6 weeks and having no fresh food in the house.  Now remember, it is October, so some things are in season.  I'll break it down...

1 Fresh loaf Multigrain Bread =         $5.69
2 Apples (0.325kg @ $7.39/kg) =     $2.40
2 Bananas (0.425kg @ $3.99/kg) =   $1.70
1 Box Mandarin Oranges =               $13.79
2 Pears (0.405kg @ $6.29/kg)  =       $2.55
1 Black Plum (0.105kg @ $5.85/kg)= $0.61
1 Pomegranate =                                  $3.09
1 Bag Carrots =                                   $2.99
1 Small Cauliflower =                          $6.09
1 Small Bag Yellow Potatoes =           $6.99
1 Pkg Baby Spinach =                         $3.99
1 Dozen Eggs =                                   $3.99
4 Litres Milk =                                     $14.59
3 Yogurts (single servings $2.29 each)= $6.87
1 8oz Cream Cheese =                         $5.95
1 small block med. Cheddar Cheese = $5.69
1 Pkg Shredded Mozza Cheese =        $6.29

On the plus side: no taxes, it's all healthy (relatively)
