Mercy Ships... how do I explain it? It is an organization that professes to bring hope and healing to the forgotten poor. But it's so much more than that. It's hundreds of people from up to 40 different countries, living together in a crowded space, all working together in harmony. It's a community of believers with all their abilities and faults, living on the doorstep of West Africa, holding out a helping hand. It's a team of imperfect people, and searching for ways to do this better, and many lessons have been learned over the years. It's a place committed to helping bring change to the nations willing to work at bettering themselves. It's where life-changing free surgeries happen, bringing new beginnings to hundreds of people every year. It's going beyond surgeries and offering training, counselling and partnership.
In every nation where the ship docks, local doctors receive training to do the needed surgeries that are performed on the ship, leaving a legacy. Teaching men to "fish" instead of simply running in with aide. And in the midst of it all, pouring the love of Christ on the patients. Because they are worth it.
