Today

I'm trudging up the hill, breathing fast and faster still
and I wonder...
why didn't I take the shortcut?

Icy wind is blowing fast, a few snowflakes flowing past
and I wonder...
why didn't I dress warmer?
Today of all days, I left out the extra layer.
