Working obstetrics

I can tell you exactly when I love my job... when I get to work in Obstetrics.  It's even better when things are busy enough to keep me going non-stop!  Or when I get to do a lot of teaching/orientating.
It's been a good couple of days, getting to help guide some nurses who are new to Obstetrics at our hospital.  :D   And as cheesy as it sounds, the best parts of my day include: that beaming smile on a new mom's face as she stares down at the new baby; the first REALLY good cry from a baby; getting to do the first bath of a baby; seeing a baby start breastfeeding like that's what it was born to do (well, it was born to breastfeed!).  Then again, there's a part of me that enjoys the mini-emergencies that we know how to fix, just because it makes my day interesting.... but maybe I shouldn't admit that???  I like when I'm forced to think, and especially when I know the solution, or come up with something that others don't think of.
What it comes back to though, is there is something.... Delicious... about a new life, untouched, unspoiled, with limitless potential.  Almost every week there is a moment where I contemplate taking a baby home with me, even though I know it's not realistic.
Babies.  They get to a person.  Or maybe that's just me.  But I like them.  (plus... Inuit babies... way too cute!!)

Hi Heather
I think I have figured out how to leave a comment on blogs now. Sure just as you are going to be leaving. I am sad for you to have to leave but you are smart in challenging yourself to try something new because it will then become a good habit and take you many places.
